Jesus taught in parables, right? Here's one for you: Of course, I'm in the Philippines, right? Weh. But there are SO MANY COCKROACHES here. I used to think that they slept on their backs because every time we walked into the kitchen in the morning, they'd be laying on their backs, moving just a little bit, as if they were having a bad dream, right? I was starting to think that they had some bit of human in them. ;) But through a little more observation, I've come to learn that the cockroaches flip onto their backs, I'm sure by accident, and can't get up easily, so they don't even try. They literally just lay on their backs until they die. They are very dramatic. I used to be so nervous of the cockroaches, but now I realize that they're just kawawa.
But WE DO IT SOMETIMES, right? When times get hard, when we are metaphorically flipped onto our backs, we figure there is walang hope, and we just give up right then and there. We've all done it, I've done it. But "eye hath not seen, nor ear heard; neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him". (1 Cor 2:9)
With such a glorious future, why get swallowed up in the past or present things that don't go quite the way we planned? There will come a time in everybodys' life when he or she is backed up against the wall of faith, and there, must make a stand. He either lets himself crumble after one small blow, or he either holds his ground, gets up off his back, and keeps on going despite the delay.
Which one are you? And which one do you want to be? And how does it feel to be compared to a cockroach?
Ha ha. It's been a great week, and I love my new comp, Sister Quebec (and yes, she gets asked if she is from Canada every day, and yes she is Filipina.) I love this area, it is so cute, and I'm grateful to be a missionary. I love you all, but all I have time for today is a small story. Stay safe, be smart! :)
My favorite way to teach lessons- with a cat on my lap
