Week 4 - MTC "Tender Mercies

It's been pinika maganda week! (the most beautiful week)! I've loved it, and believe it or not, I'm not quite sick of the MTC yet... The food isn't even as bad as everyone made it out to be (it's not 10/10, pero it's not 1/10 either) I love it here. The spirit is so strong, and I've had SO MANY prayers answered, and I've been given tender mercies to last a life time.

STORY TIME: Yesterday, my mga kasamas and I were teaching our lesson to our investigator, Eric. We went into this lesson without a steady lesson plan dahil we wanted to see where he was at in life. We wanted to get to know him so that we could teach him according to his needs. Teach people, not lessons, ya know.
Anyway, we were in there and the topic of baptism was super present- GOOD! Pero, he didn't understand WHY we needed to be baptized- he just didnt get it. So one specific scripture came to mind, pero (but ) I had absolutely NO idea where it was... I didn't even know if it was in the BoM, all I knew was that I NEEDED to share this scripture. So I said the teeniest prayer in my heart that God would help me find this one scripture... So when I closed my prayer, I took my faith and I opened up my BoM and flipped through a few pages, and when I looked down at the page, there it WAS! The EXACT scripture I was looking for.
2 Nephi 31:5 And now, if the lamb of God, He being HOLY, should have need to be baptized by water, to fulfil all righteousness, O then, how much more need have we, being UNHOLY, to be baptized, yea, even by water.

GUYS! Tender mercy to the freakin max. :)

I love it here, pero I'm SOBRANG excited to head out to the field. 13 days until I'm traveling for 30 hours to THE PHILIPPINES! So stoked! I've heard NOTHING but good things about the Filippino people, and I'm so excited to get to meet them for myself. Tonight we will (hopefully) get to Skype with some Filippinos. :) Guys guys guys guys. I've already taken at least 100 pics a week here.. and I'm ONLY at the MTC. Imagine how many pictures I'll have of the Philippines. I'm gonna be that person. ;)

Grabe, I don't even know what else to tell you guys... The new districts who came in are fun. Still kind of quiet, pero Sister Matheny's mom send us at least 60 more chicken flings.... so we will be entertained for DAYS. ;)

Ps. Will you all go watch the 4 minute video "None Were With Him" by Elder Jeffery R. Holland?!!? I CRIED.

Since there's really no Halloween at sa MTC we improvised with these killer witch fingers we found in the giveaway bins. WHO would want to give

Week 3 - MTC "Open Your Mouth"

Kumusta everyone! This week has been so great! We've officially hit our halfway mark here in sa MTC! ;) That's only three weeks, so it's not saying much, pero I feel like I literally got here this morning and that it has just been one long day. A mabuti day, pero a long day! :) I love it here. The spirit is so strong, and I've really come to LOVE these mga missionaries. They're all amazing.
Our Zone played some beach volleyball the other day, and I learned that I am basically a volley ball prodigy....... ;) If you can't tell, that sentence is covered in sarcasm. Pero, I'm not the worst. ;)
The older districts actually left for the Manila MTC yesterday, and I am SO sad about it. I'm going to miss them all SO much... Heck, I missed them before they even left.
Pero, good for them! They're going to love it. :) And before we know it, we're going to be the ones leaving, and the new districts will be sad about it, too. ;) Joke-lang.

Oh my! Sister Matheny's mom sent a package full of more CHICKEN FLINGS! Like 30 chicken flings! Almost everyone in our Zone got one, and then we used our Purpose Board thing as a target... Even our teachers were sobrang excited about it. Ha ha, we were laughing so hard, I was literally crying! Guys, the MTC is a freaking blast, and I absolutely love it here. We have fun, and our new DL, Elder Florez (the one who gets packages every day) is still getting 12 packages a week from Mama A. Flo. Lol, we have two years worth of food and goodies. ;)

So much has happened this week, and I don't even know where to begin. We had some fantastic devotionals! Pero, the one thing that has stuck with me this week was one by Elder Jeffery R. Holland. No, he did not come to the MTC to speak with us... If he had I would have peed my pants.

We watched a recording (almost as good) of a devo he gave years ago. It's called "Open Your Mouth". Open your mouth, share this joyous message with the world, let them know why you are so happy. The one thing that really hit me was when he told the Joseph Smith story... Where Joseph went to the grove of trees to pray about which church he should join, and he was visited by God the Father, and Jesus Christ. Well, before this, when he started to pray and started pouring his heart and soul to God, he was filled with this darkness, and the Adversary bound his tongue.
Just take a second to THINK about that. Satan doesn't have the power to kill, pero if he did, he would have. No, when Satan wanted to STOP the work of God, he did the one thing he could do, the one thing he knows would stop the work of God from progressing, and that was to STOP Joseph's WORDS from being spoken. WORDS ARE POWER!
Holland says, "Don't you DARE play into the hands of the Adversary by VOLUNTARILY keeping your mouth shut." OPEN YOUR MOUTH! Share the Gospel with the world! The words spoken about the Restoration of Ng Engbanhelyo ni JesuCristo, the words spoken about this GOSPEL- these are the HAPPIEST words. Tell everyone you know about the Gospel, and OPEN YOUR MOUTH.

This is a good life, and I'm SO happy that I get to be here as a missionary of God! That I get to share this HAPPY message with the mga tao in sa Philippines. :) I don't know where I would be without the Gospel, and without the joy that comes from it.

Week 2 - MTC October 13, 2016 "Lord Save Me"

Kumusta everyone! Hindi ko alam where to even start! Week two in sa MTC was wonderful. I actually LOVE it here- it's so fun, I have made so many new friends, and it's so fun to get to see them around campus all the time.  It is literally like high school all over again, pero I loved high school, so I am okay with it. The difference between here and high school is that the lunches are a little bit better, and classes end at 9pm. Ha! Other than that, it is comfort zone to the max.

Our district is the best, and we have SO MUCH fun!! One of the Elders in our zone came up with a rap for the Philippines mga misyonero and ITS  BRILLIANT! I'll try to send a video of him rapping it. Pero, I'm bad at using my camera for videos, so you have to skip like a minute in the beginning, and then like a minute at the end hahaha! But I highly suggest listening to it- sobrang funny!

We have so much fun here, and the Tuesday/Sunday devotionals are amazing. Last week GUESS WHO CAME to speak?! Elder David A. BEDNAR! And this devotional was broadcasted live to every MTC in the world! How cool is that?! His talk was AMAZING, and he said something that I've been thinking about every single day. He said: (and this is my paraphrasing because I'm not THAT good at taking notes) "Consider this: what will we give in return for the LOVE and LIGHT and MERCY that God has given us? All He asks of us is that we follow the path He's provided. May our motive be our LOVE for God and for His children. This is the beginning of what we can do in return for what He's done for us." Maganda!

How POWERFUL is that?! That's what I, personally, am doing here. I am setting aside my life to be a full-time misyonero for our Diyos because He has paid the ultimate sacrifice for me, and for all of us. It's the least I can do. Pero, you don't have to be a full-time misyonero to show God that you are grateful for what He's done for you. Use His Atonement to better yourself, use repentance to come closer to Diyos, serve His mga children is the best way you know how, stick to the straight and narrow, at keep His commandments. "If ye LOVE me, keep my commandments" John 14:15 I believe it is.

God is good. :) He WILL bless you for following Him. Ah. Guys, read in Matthew 14, about Peter walking on the water. Matt 14:27-31 I think... "But straightaway Jesus spake unto them, saying: Be of good cheer; it is I; be NOT AFRAID"
The scriptures say those three words over and over again: BE NOT AFRAID. I was told that depending on the translation, the bible says "be not afraid" 365 times, as if we need to hear it every single day. TRUST GOD, and be not afraid.
And when Jesus tells Peter to come to him, Peter stepped out onto the water, and verses 30&31 say: "But when He saw the winds boisterous, he was afraid: and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, LORD, SAVE ME.
"And IMMEDIATELY, Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him, and said unto him: O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"
"Lord, save me." Peter said, and IMMEDIATELY,  Jesus caught Him. He didn't first ask him why he doubted, pero he FIRST caught him. Our Lord wont ONLY listen to our pleading if we are always on the right path. He wants us to be on the right path, but His love and mercy is not limited to only those who are perfect. He will ALWAYS help us if we come to Him. But WE HAVE TO COME TO HIM. He isn't like the Natural Man who says, "Oh, NOW you want my help?" He WILL HELP IF WE ASK. Pero, we HAVE TO ASK.

I know He will come for His lost sheep. PLEASE READ THE TALK: He Will Place You on His Shoulders And Carry You Home by President Uchtdorf given in April 2016. Listen to it, and find relevance to you. My FAVORITE talk. :)

I love you all. Thanks for reading to the end, and if you're just scrolling to the end to see the pictures, that's cool too. Love you still. ;)

LYRICS TO OUR MISSION RAP:

District G-16 yeah, we preachin' up the good news
Missionaries rappin' like the Philippino hood blues
Kick our crocs in the air cause we don't wear dress shoes
Representing Christ- we know that we can't lose
Woah, head out to the field cause we're dyin'
In the field: Angeles, Bagiuo, Kawaiin
But our Elder Bernal, Cavite is where he's flyin'
Baptism is the goal and you know that we tryin'
6 weeks and a half in the MTC
Missionary goggles for the sisters that we see
But the white hand book here reminds us how to be
Page 33, read it up
Let my district be heard, this is 16-G.

Week #1 - MTC October 6, 2016

Before I begin, I want to say pasensiya (sorry) if I have bad grammar. I have LITERALLY only been here for a week, pero I am already finding that my english is slowly declining. My conference notes are all messed up because I would forget words, and kind of just make a scribble. And whenever someone says a prayer in English, or simple phrases like "yes" at "no" in English, I really have to think about it. It throws me off.  I have Tagalog running through my mind constantly.
And for those of you who DO speak Tagalog, don't criticize my bad Tagalog, either. I'm still learning. Slowly, but surely.

Anyway, I love it here. It's SOBRANG fun! I am in a Trio with Sister Matheny  and Sister Whaley! These girls are my favorite! I'll send some pictures. Sister Whaley is so strong in the gospel and she has the cutest laugh- she also thinks its funny that I call everything "cute". At Sister Matheny is so funny! She's funny in the way that my Grandma Nancy is funny- just without trying. She forgets everything, pero we always have a good laugh about it.

My District is HILARIOUS. They're so fun. We have an Elder who is from Englang, so we get to hear an english accent every day. He says that Americans have a weird sense of humor, and that everything in England is more proper than things in America.. Hard to believe, right? ;) But it's so fun here. I love all the mga misyonero!! They're all so friendly. :')

Conference here in the MTC as a MISYONERO was MAGANDA!! One of my FAVORITE quotes EVER was from Elder Ronald A. Rasband, and he said something along the lines of: "In times of spiritual crisis, draw on what you KNOW. You will again feel the safety and warmth of the Gospel." And that's so TRUE!
Before my mission, I was so afraid that my testimony wasn't good enough, and that I would be a terrible misyonero because I didn't know everything. Pero my Bishop told me to just draw back on what I know. I've felt the truth of this enbanghelyo (gospel), and I know it's REAL. In the General Woman's Conference, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf said (something along the lines of), "FAITH is TRUST."  Faith isn't just trusting in God's wisdom, pero in His LOVE as well. Have faith that trials and unanswered questions are for our benefit. "We will understand one day, and when that day of knowledge comes, we will be OVERWHELMED with His MERCY at His LOVE. Until then, walk by what faith you have"

UNTIL that day of understanding, walk by whatever FAITH you have. It doesn't matter if your faith is as small as a mustard seed- that's enough for now. Having the desire is the NECESSARY first step. That's what Pres. Uchtdorf says in another talk: "Be Not Afraid, Only Believe". I listened to this talk almost every day before my mission. Dang, that seems like so long ago- I feel like I've been here forever (pero that's not a bad thing) ;)
LISTEN TO IT. It is INCREDIBLE.

I really do love it here, and I'm masaya (happy). Pero I do miss listening to music- even though literally all I listened to before I left was Vocal Point at mga hymns. HA! Funny thing is that on Sunday night, Vocal Point actually CAME to the MTC and gave a devotional/performance. Maganda. It made me want to cry- I felt the spirit so strongly. There's something about listening to music that really brings the spirit. :)

GUYS, (whoops. I was told that I'm not allowed to call people 'guys' anymore! HAHAH) but GUYS! THIS GOSPEL IS AMAZING! This MTC is amazing! Life is amazing!
